Great Meteoron - Varlaam - St. Stephen - Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas Anapausas - Rousanou - other Meteora monasteries

The Meteoras, unique strange things, are located in the Thessalia plains, near Kalambaka town, between the Antichassia and the Koziakas mountains. The Meteoras form one of the best known Eastern Christianmonastic centers. A strange forest of rocks erupts right in the middle of the plains, creating a thrilling landscape. The Meteora Complex is one of the most important centers of Greek Orthodox after Mount Athos.

The route from Kalambaka to the monasteries is charming. On the right and left appear tall, wild cliffs. After a delightful journey to get to the holy land, Meteora is one of the most beautiful places on earth and once again that natural phenomenon, unique in the world.

Meteora is a completely holy ground, a holy place built and guarded by God, because here was consecrated every rock, every cave, every rock, because a lot of pious and ascetic martyrs prayed and the rocks were deified and valleys of this place.

A symbol of power of prayer and sacrifice of all Orthodox people, Meteora is one of those places where this grace is alive and the divine blessing overflows into the hearts of pilgrims.

Thus, over time, most of the rocks of Meteora monasteries have been included. Bottom, from the rocks, only a few pieces of building are distinguished, above but near St. Nicholas Church steeple, for example, what you see will shudder you.

Preserved with great care and reverence by the monks, here one can admire numerous manuscripts and valuable icons, relics of saints and miniature works of art, frescoes of inestimable value belonging to Cretan and Macedonian School.
